Argentina vs Colombia Copa America Predictions

Copa America 2019 Argentina vs Colombia
Argentina vs Colombia - Copa America

The match is over.
Score: 0-2.

The Copa America is always one of the most exciting tournaments in all of football and with Lionel Messi’s Argentina taking on James Rodriguez’s Colombia, it promises to be a thrilling game with plenty of goals and action.

This has the makings of an incredible match with a lot of action, but the final result and the winner will be hard to predict. Both teams have match winners and can change the game in an instant.

Argentina will likely be going into this game as favourites mainly due to the presence of a certain Barcelona superstar, and could get their tournament started with an important win.

Colombia come into this game off the back of a penalty shootout loss against England in the last World Cup nearly a year ago, but their performances since that loss have given them huge confidence.

Argentina have lost just once in their last five games – against Venezuela – and beat the likes of Nicaragua, Morocco and two wins in a row against Mexico.

Since the World Cup, Colombia have lost just once against South Korea and the only other game they didn’t win was a draw against Argentina.

The Argentinians are probably slight favourites for this one, but a draw or a tight win for them will be enough for a good bet. A 1-1 or 2-1 Argentina win should be the bets to look out.

Betting Tips

The blue and whites are favourites, but only slightly with 888sport having a 2-1 win at 4/1. Colombia will obviously give them a very good and very close one at that, but a late Argentina winner makes this one of the better bets to look at in this opening round of Copa America games.

These are lengthy odds for an outcome which is more probable than they reflect. If Argentina take an early lead before Colombia make a fight back, taking the game level at the break before Messi and his teammates manage to find a late winner makes this a very appealing bet, rated at 17/4 by 888sport.

Head to Head

Argentina and Colombia have 39 matches on their record, with Argentina winning 24 of them, Colombia winning eight games and a draw being played out just seven draws.

  • The first recorded game between the two game back in 1945 with Argentina winning 9-1 in the Copa America.
  • The first win for Colombia came in 1984 in a regular friendly when they won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Miguel Prince, with Argentina playing without Diego Maradona.
  • The last Colombia win was in 2007 when they beat an Argentina team containing Lionel Messi, Carlos Tevez, Javier Zanetti, Esteban Cambiasso, Javier Mascherano and Juan Roman Riquelme.
  • Colombia only managed to beat Argentina once when Maradona was on the field, in 1987 when they won 2-1 and Claudio Caniggia scored the only goal for the losers that day.
