Paris Saint-Germain vs Manchester United Champions League

The match is over.
Score: 1-3.

The hosts hold a commanding two-goal lead from the first leg victory at Old Trafford but United are in great form and this promises to be a fascinating encounter between two teams accustomed to winning.

Paris Saint-Germain are heavy favourites to progress following the first leg victory at Old Trafford last month thanks to goals from Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe.

The hosts will once again fancy themselves not only to progress but to win on the night, despite the absence of star forward Neymar who continues to have a foot injury.

But the visitors are robbed of their star player too – Paul Pogba is suspended for his return to Paris due to a suspension from his red card in England.

Both sides have been bereft by injury problems in recent weeks, meaning that decisions on line-ups are unlikely to be taken until the evening of the game.

The hosts will be favourites to progress to the quarter-finals of the competition to possessing home advantage, superior form and quality over United, alongside holding a two-goal advantage.

The home side are favourites to win this game although it may not be comfortable – a 1-1 draw with the Parisians to progress on aggregate is a likely outcome.

Betting Tips

The Argentine playmaker starred in the two-goal victory at Old Trafford against his former club, clearly motivated by the hostile reception he received from the Old Trafford crowd. Di Maria has six goals in his last eight appearances and three in his last two and has netted in two of his three Champions League home games this campaign.

This bet relates directly to the result on the night rather than who progresses to the quarter-finals, so seems immediately more attractive. United have won eight consecutive away matches under boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, including scoring victories at Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal. PSG do not need to win this game to advance so United to escape the French capital without a defeat is a real possibility.

Head to Head

PSG’s 2-0 victory at Old Trafford in the first leg of this Round of 16 tie last month was the first competitive meeting between the two sides.

  • Manchester United have picked up more Premier League points (29) than any other side since boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed in December.
  • The Red Devils have also won all eight away matches under the Norwegian, with an efficient counter-attacking style of play.
  • Paris Saint-Germain have won seven consecutive matches in all competitions, conceding just one goal in the process.
  • The Parisians have won 22 of their 25 Ligue 1 games this season, seven points clear of second-placed Lille with a game in hand.
