Champions League Man City vs Dinamo Zagreb
Man City vs Dinamo Zagreb Champions League

The match is over.
Score: 2-0.

With both of these sides picking up wins in their first group games of the campaign, this has turned into quite an important game if these two are hoping to qualify for the next round, more specifically for Zagreb who come into this one as underdogs.

On paper, this should be a straight forward win for Man City and their cast of stars but as we saw last season, you can never be too sure when teams travel to Manchester in the Champions League.

City won their opening game of the campaign away at Donetsk and never looked in any danger of letting their win slip out of their hands.

Zagreb hosted Champions League newcomers Atalanta and battered them with a comfortable 4-0 score line meaning that they went top of the group of goals scored.

City have been on a tear recently, beating the likes of Watford 8-0 in the Premier Leagueas they bounced back very well from losing away at Norwich the other week and beating Preston in the Carabao Cup.

Zagreb’s league season is well underway but they currently sit in second place behind Hadjuk Split and have a game in hand over their Croatian rivals and sit just three points back.

The home side are heavy, heavy favourites for the game and it wouldn’t surprise anyone if they decided to put a few past Zagreb, but the smart money may be to bet on a first goal scorer or a City 5-0 win.

Betting Tips

City are overwhelming favourites for this clash so a home win carries very little risk while it is also highly likely that City will pummel Zagreb. While Zagreb may bring a lot of fans and may try their hardest, they won’t have anything to combat the sheer power of Man City and this is among the best online betting odds for this midweek round of action.888sport have it as 19/2.

These are good odds for an outcome which is more probable than they reflect, due to the reasons above. City have all the tools in the world to make mincemeat out of their Croatian visitors and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them batter them in the first half before calming it down in the second,  with this bet rated at 13/2 by 888sport.

Head to Head

This will be the first time that these two sides have ever met in a competitive fixture throughout their history, with neither side being drawn against each other at any stage in their time in the Champions League or UEFA Cup/Europa League.

  • Zagreb have won five of their last ten European away fixtures, winning three and drawing two.
  • This is Man City’s ninth Champions League campaign and have been involved in every group stage since 2011, reaching the knockout rounds every season for the past six years.
  • Zagreb beat Atalanta 4-0 in their opening group game with MislavOrsic scoring a hat trick to become the first player to score a hat trick for a Croatian club in the Champions League group stages.
  • City have won nine of their last 16 European games, losing six and drawing one in the process under Pep Guardiola.
