Champions League Quarter Final Juventus vs Ajax
Juventus vs Ajax

The match is over.
Score: 1-2.

The second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals take place this week with the tie between Italian champions Juventus and Dutch giants Ajax still in the balance after a closely-fought first leg in Amsterdam, which ended 1-1 last week.

Predictions

The return leg of this fixture is highly anticipated with the tie on a knife-edge after the first leg draw in the Netherlands.

Juventus will be slight favourites to progress to the semi-finals due to their pedigree in the competition and eliminating Atletico Madrid in the Round of 16.

However, Ajax dominated large part of the first leg and also stunned Real Madrid in the previous round when they recorded a sensational 1-4 win at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Dutch side will take plenty of spirit from their run so far and having scored over 100 goals in the Eredivisie, will be confident of landing an away goal.

The hosts will be favourites to progress through to the last four of the competition due to possessing home advantage, superior form and quality over Ajax.

The home side are favourites to win this game although it will not be at all comfortable – a 3-2 triumph for the Old Lady would appear a likely outcome from it.

Betting Tips

A remarkable 126 goals have flown in across Ajax’s 29 Eredivisie games this campaign and five goals flew in during their remarkable 4-1 victory in Madrid in the last round. They are a side who are capable of scoring multiple goals and are aware that they must do so here if they are any chance to progress. Cristiano Ronaldo – the tournament’s leading record scorer – is also sure to provide a massive goal threat for the hosts. This is among the best online betting odds for the midweek round of games, with 888Sport pricing it at 23/10.

Ajax have scored in both halves of five of their previous six away matches – including that stunning 4-1 win in Madrid and also an impressive 3-0 victory at third-placed Feyenoord. As mentioned in the previous bet, this is a team who can score goals and also have the necessity to do so here. Royal Panda make it 41/10 that the Dutch side net in both halves.

Statistics

Head to Head

Last week’s 1-1 draw in Amsterdam saw the hosts dominate for large periods in terms of possession and chances created. In their five meetings since 2004, Ajax have not defeated Juve although each of the last two games have been draws.

Stats

  • Juventus are expected to be the first champions of Europe’s top five leagues this weekend – a draw against SPAL will clinch them the title with six games remaining.
  • Max Allegri’s side have lost just one Serie A match all season, at Genoa, but perhaps more remarkably, they have managed to win 27 of their 31 matches.
  • Ajax are current league leaders of the Dutch Eredivisie, leading PSV on goal difference, and have racked up 100 goals in their 29 league games to date.
  • The Amsterdam giants are competing in the Champions League knockout stages for the first time since 2004.
