The Champions League returns this coming week with an important Group C clash between Crvena Zvezda and Liverpool on Tuesday evening in a game the vistors are heavy favourites to win.

Liverpool will be strong favourites to take three points in this fixture which may prove pivotal in their hopes of qualifying past the group stage.

Jurgen Klopp’s side went down 1-0 in Napoli in their second group game following a pulsating 3-2 victory over Paris Saint-Germain, but unsurprisingly defeat Crvena Zvezda 4-0 at Anfield last time out.

The Reds will see both games against the Serbian champions as must-win fixtures in their pursuit to reach the Last 16 stage of the competition.

Crvena Zvezda started their campaign with an admirable opening day draw at home to Napoli but subsequently suffered a heavy 6-1 defeat at French champions PSG before their loss on Merseyside.

They are once more going strong domestically, with 13 wins from their opening 14 league matches with just two points dropped.

Liverpool’s form has recovered following a tough run of games: the defeat to Napoli was sandwiched between consecutive league draws with predictable victories over Huddersfield and Cardiff.

The away side are massive favourites to win this game comfortable, and a 3-1 triumph for Liverpool would appear a likely outcome from it.

Betting Tips

The Serbian side have shipped 10 goals in their last two European games while Liverpool possess one of the most fearsome attacks in European football at present. Five goals went in during Liverpool’s enthralling victory over the Parisians and expect a similar tally here while Crvena shipped six in Paris.

Liverpool tend to hit the front early in games and take control of games in the first half. There is significantly more value in backing Jurgen Klopp’s side to lead at both half-time and full-time rather than just winning outright.

Head to Head

Perhaps somewhat surprisingly given the European exploits of both clubs in European competition, these two sides had never previously met before this season. The 4-0 home victory at Anfield saw Mohamed Salah score twice, while Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane also netted.

  • Mohamed Salah netted a remarkable 11 goals in his 15 Champions League outings last season and got off the mark this season with a double last time out.
  • Liverpool have scored 31 goals at Anfield in the Champions League since the start of the 2017/18 campaign, including a preliminary playoff win over Hoffenheim but have lost each of their last three games in the competition not at Anfield.
  • German midfielder Marko Marin – previously of Chelsea – is the only player at Crvena Zvezda to have previously played for an English club.
  • Crvena Zvezda sit nine points clear atop the Serbian league after 14 matches, netting 38 goals in the process – more than double the amount of fierce rivals Partizan Belgrade.
