Atalanta vs Man City Champions League

The match is over.
Score: 1-1.

This promises to be a hugely entertaining match as Atalanta, notorious for their high scoring games, host a Man City side who will feel that this is their best opportunity to win the Champions League under Pep Guardiola.

City will be favourites to win this game but keep an eye out for the score on this fixture. It’ll be a high scoring affair that will probably go in City’s favour.

City will secure qualification to the knockout rounds of the Champions League if they win this game, making it four wins from four games.

Atalanta have lost all three of their opening group games against Zagreb, Donetsk and Man City, and scored just two goals in those three games.

Man City have conceded just once in their three group games, against Atalanta in the previous game at the Etihad, and have scored 10 goals in the process.

Atalanta have made a good start to their Serie A campaign, however, after losing just one game all season which came early on against Torino in the second game of the season.

The visitors are the clear favourites for this game and that should come as no surprise, but go with high scoring bets. A 4-2 City win would be a good score to go with and it’ll be smart to side with a City win with both teams to score.

Betting Tips

City are overwhelming favourites for this clash so an away win carries little risk while it is also highly likely that both teams will score. It’s almost a certainty that Atalanta will get on to the score sheet but they won’t have enough to beat City and this is among the best online betting odds for this midweek round of action. 888sport have it as 5/4 when combined with the City win.

City have the talent and the players to score four while they also have the defence to let in two goals and we all know how expansive Atalanta can be, so this looks like quite a good score line to back especially given how good the odds are for this one, with this bet rated at 19/1 by 888sport.

Head to Head

Like most games in this group stage, this is the second time these two will have faced off with the first time being the reverse fixture, which of course Man City won 5-1.

  • Raheem Sterling’s hat trick in the reverse fixture was the third fastest hat trick in the competitions history, clocking in at 11 minutes.
  • After losing to City, Atalanta have gone five games in Europe without a win, drawing two and losing three.
  • This is the fifth time City have been drawn in the same Champions League group as an Italian club, but City had failed to win in their first four visits in Italy against Italian sides.
  • In the 2017/18 campaign in the Europa League, Atalanta played their only previous fixtures against an English club, beating Everton 3-0 at home and 5-1 away.
