About the La Liga

The Primera División, more commonly referred to as La Liga, is Spain’s top tier of Football and is regarded by many to be the best football league in the world. With some of the biggest names and some of the most famous clubs it attracts bettors from the UK and all over the world hoping to find the best value La Liga odds.

La Liga Teams

Even if you don’t know much about La Liga betting you will have heard of Real Madrid and Barcelona. Two of the biggest football clubs in the world, they are by far the most successful sides in Spain and La Liga winners odds usually revolve around these two football giants.

But there is a lot more to Spanish football than these two clubs and this La Liga betting guide will show you who else to look out for with the best La Liga predictions.

Real Madrid and Barcelona have won 58 titles between them and only seven other sides have beaten these two to the championship since La Liga was first competed for in 1929. But there are many other famous club names in Spain thanks to the huge success of the country’s sides in European competition.

During the history of the competition there have been other clubs that have dominated such as Athletic Bilbao, Valencia and Atletico Madrid but in recent times it has mainly been Real Madrid and Barcelona who have lifted the trophy.

La Liga Players

Until his move to Italian giants Juventus, Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid – along with Lionel Messi at Barcelona – made the most headlines but with so many talented clubs there are many other world-renowned names that have played for a number of teams.

Real Madrid have had their galacticos since the 1990s, featuring stars such as David Beckham, Raul and Zinedine Zidane and Barcelona have also attracted the best players in the world – Ronaldinho, Johan Cruyff and the original Brazilian Ronaldo playing for the club before Xavi Hernandez. Andres Iniesta and Messi dominated at the turn of the century.

Atletico Madrid have had their fair share of global superstars as well, with players such as Antoine Griezmann and Diego Costa currently turning out for the club. Valencia, Sevilla and Villareal have all also had their big names and any one looking to get into betting on La Liga needs to know what is available outside the big two.

Latest Winners

La Liga winners odds have recently been very short for either Real Madrid or Barcelona depending on who has the best side in any given year. Lionel Messi’s Barcelona have won more regularly in the last few years but you only have to go back to 2014 to when Atletico Madrid took the title to show that the La Liga odds are sometimes there to be taken.

Barcelona have been installed as the favourites for the 2018/19 title but La Liga predictions have been harder to make this season as many of the big teams have struggled against supposedly weaker teams – and both Real Madrid and Barcelona have already dropped points.

That is why it is even more vital to do your research before your La Liga betting because it seems as though anything can happen at the moment. With plenty of betting markets offered without the big two more knowledge of the Spanish game is crucial.

La Liga Predictions For The Current Season

Even the experts have been surprised with how open La Liga has been this season but as the months go on we should be able to see both Barcelona and Real Madrid getting into a rhythm and picking up the points. La Liga predictions have been even harder to call without some good research.

What will be interesting, however, will be which of the other sides stay in touch with the big two at the top. Being able to go on a run of winning games now could set up the likes of Valencia, Atletico Madrid or even Real Betis for a claim for a European spot at least.

Everyone’s eyes were on Real Madrid and how they would cope without Ronaldo after his close season move to Juventus. But Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and the rest have not allowed the fans to even notice the difference with some impressive performances of their own.

Barcelona have failed to take the advantage of a Ronaldo-less Madrid and this season’s La Liga has really got interesting.

A favourite La Liga betting market – as with any top football league – is the top goal scorer. Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have won the goal race most times in recent seasons but with such attacking talent there are plenty of other candidates.

Barcelona’s Luis Suarez was La Liga top scorer as recent as 2016 and with Lionel Messi’s relatively slow start some of the smaller clubs’ strikers have made their mark. Cristhian Stuani of Girona, André Silva of Sevilla and Celta Vigo favourite Iago Aspas have all started well and it looks like it will turn out to be a close race.

La Liga Facts

La Liga is contested by 20 teams from all over Spain and is the highest tier of football in the country – if not the whole of Europe. The bottom three clubs will experience La Liga relegation at the end of the season with the top two in the Segunda División promoted along with the winner of the promotions play offs contested by the next four clubs in the league.

The top four clubs qualify for the Champions League with the fifth placed team qualifying for the Europa League group stage and the side in sixth entering at the second qualifying round stage.

The league is third behind only the Bundesliga in Germany and the English Premier League for the average fan attendance and is popular with football fans around the world. There are plenty of sports betting markets at Amazing.Bet and you can discover all the best La Liga odds right here.
