With both of these teams harbouring hopes of a title challenge this season – one looking to retain their crown and the other looking to make a step up – this could be a hugely telling game on the way that both Man City and Tottenham’s seasons might pan out.

On paper, you’d have to fancy Man City to carry on their winning run in the Premier League and grab all three points, but if anyone can beat Man City it’s definitely Spurs, as last season showed.

Spurs will go into this game as underdogs simply down to the opponents their going up against, but it wouldn’t be the much of a shock if they left Manchester and heading back down to London with all three points.

City are looking to make everyone fully aware – if they aren’t already – that they’re still the kings and that if you go at the kings, you better not miss. This is the perfect time for them to go full blood at Spurs and put a gap between the two sides.

City have won their last 15 games in the Premier League, last losing to Newcastle, and have beaten the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Spurs in that run as well.

The visitors will be underdogs but can take note from their set up against City in the Champions League quarter final last season, although you’d imagine that the game won’t be quite as open as that one was.

The home side are favourites for this game but you’d be mistaken if you think that it’ll be a blow out. A 2-1 win for City seems sensible and likely, so it’s best to side with those odds.

Betting Tips

City are favourites for this clash so an away win is quite likely, while it is also highly likely that both teams will score. Spurs will give everything they have to try and come away victorious, but a City win is one of the safest bets from this round of Premier League action.

These are lengthy odds for an outcome which is more probable than they reflect. Home advantage should give City an advantage given how well they use their own pitch to create space and to stretch the opposition, so to see them win a tight game 2-1 wouldn’t be a surprise.

Head to Head

City and Spurs have played each other 159 times with City winning 63 games, Tottenham only marginally behind on 61 wins and 35 draws being played out as well.

  • The first game was actually an FA Cup tie in 1909 when Spurs won at Man City 4-3 at the old Hyde Road stadium in front of a reported 20,000 fans.
  • Spurs’ first win over City in a league competition came three years later when they won 4-0 at White Hart Lane, before beating them again the following season 3-1 at the Lane.
  • The last Tottenham win came in the first leg of the Champions League quarter finals this past season and City’s last win came later in the month, a 1-0 win just days after beating Spurs 4-3 in the second leg of that Champions League tie, but Spurs ultimately advancing on away goals.
  • The last time City lost at the Etihad to Spurs was in 2016 when a late Christian Eriksen winner saw them win 2-1, securing them their first win at the Etihad since winning in 2010 1-0, famous for the winning Peter Crouch goal that effectively sent Tottenham in the Champions League.
