The standout fixture of the Premier League weekend sees the top two go head to head at Anfield with visiting Manchester City looking to make a dent on Liverpool’s six point lead at the summit.

Liverpool have dropped just two points this season – at Manchester United – but have had to come from behind to record dramatic wins over Tottenham and Aston Villa.

Jurgen Klopp’s men hold a six-point advantage going into this clash but somewhat surprisingly are not favourites in the betting markets.

Manchester City have won five games in a row in all competitions to recover from a slow start to the campaign – collecting just 16 points from their opening eight games.

Pep Guardiola’s side have lost to Norwich City and Wolves but have returned to form recently and last time out came from behind to defeat Southampton.

The visitors will be slight favourites to cut the gap at the top despite not possessing home advantage, as they hold superior quality over Liverpool.

The away side are favourites to win this game although it may not be comfortable – a 3-1 triumph for Pep Guardiola’s side would appear a likely outcome from it.

Betting Tips

Liverpool have not kept a clean sheet at Anfield this season and indeed have shipped 13 goals at the stadium to date this campaign. However, Man City have conceded more league goals than Jurgen Klopp’s side this campaign but have scored (a lot) more than anyone else, with 34 goals to their name in 11 league matches – making this among the best online betting odds for the weekend action.

The England international already has netted 17 goals for club and country this season including nine in his last 10 in all competitions. This is a game in which he will face his former club and it will be a fixture which he is keener to score than any other. Sterling has been the man for the big occasion in recent years and this will be no different.

Head to Head

City beat Liverpool on penalties in the Community Shield after a 1-1 draw earlier this season and edged Jurgen Klopp’s side 2-1 during their last league meeting last January. The league fixture at Anfield last season finished scoreless.

  • Liverpool had been on a club record winning streak of 17 matches in the Premier League until a recent draw at Manchester United, but have won 19 of their last 20.
  • City have won 22 of their last 25 Premier League matches, drawing once and losing twice.
  • Pep Guardiola’s side edged Liverpool out to last season’s title by one point – Liverpool’s tally of 97 points the highest ever for a side not to win the league.
  • City have scored 15 goals in five Premier League away matches so far this campaign.
