Uruguay vs Peru Copa America Predictions

Copa America 2019 Quarter Finals
Uruguay vs Peru - Copa America

Saturday June 29th, 3:00 pm

The Copa America knockout stages get underway with Uruguay – one of the favourites for the tournament – expected to progress to the last four but must first negotiate their tie with Peru, who lost by a five-goal margin to Brazil in their last outing.

Uruguay are now the second favourites to win the competition behind hosts Brazil, partly due to the patchy form of Argentina.

Oscar Tabarez’s side are well placed to go into the last four as they take on a Peru side who are out of form – while Uruguay collected seven points from their three group games.

The only points Uruguay dropped in their group were in a pulsating 2-2 draw with Japan, while they ran out winners over both Ecuador and Chile.

Four points were sufficient for Peru to progress – they defeated Bolivia 3-1 and were held to a 0-0 draw by Venezuela, while they crashed to a five-goal loss to Brazil.

Uruguay will be strong favourites to continue their strong run of results due to possessing superior form and quality over Peru.

Uruguay are favourites to win this game and it should be relatively comfortable – a 3-0 triumph for them would appear a likely outcome from it.

Betting Tips

Peru have failed to find the net in four of their last six matches including in two of their three group stage games at this tournament. Uruguay meanwhile have kept five clean sheets from their last six matches and it is a case of a strong defence coming up against an unimaginative attack.

Head to Head

  • Uruguay last won the competition in 2011 – their fourth tournament triumph – when they defeated Paraguay 3-0 in the showpiece.
  • Peru have won the Copa America twice in their 31 appearances in the competition – but their last success was back in 1975.
  • Peru have lost nine of their last 15 matches in all competitions having gone 15 games unbeaten prior to that.
